Inside Front Cover
This is a Matson Lines Flag. I believe that these were handed out to passengers for the Bon Voyage
Party on departure from (in this case) Los Angeles, California. The flag appears to be silk on a
wooden dowel with a "JAPAN" label visible near the bottom.

As indicated, this album commemorates a "Summer Trip to the Hawaiian Islands 1958 by M. Pennycook and
J. Hudson". The scrapbook itself seems to have belonged to Janet Hudson, who it would appear,
attended the Summer coed session at the University of Hawaii. Travel to Honolulu was on the Matson
Lines S.S. Lurline and the return on Matson Lines S.S. Mariposa. During the summer holiday, it
looks like the pair took some inter-island flights on Aloha Airline to visit other parts of the
islands.
